I've always admired the early Newlyn artists, and Walter Langley in particular painted some magnificent watercolours. The first major work which he exhibited in London, and which made his reputation, was this one, "Time moveth not", but the original has unfortunately been lost. All that survives is a black and white print of most of the painting. This is my homage to him; what I think is a reasonable colour reconstruction at the original size, taking cues from similar paintings by him of the same sitter. It is not an absolute copy; that would be fair to neither myself nor him; I have tried to reproduce the feeling and spirit of the original within the limitations of my own style and skills. Also the stated size for exhibition of the original has a different aspect ratio to the surviving print, indicating that portions of the original are absent in the print; so I have had to add elements of my own. Watercolour. 265 x 535mm. Not for Sale, but a signed limited edition print is available - see below. |
You can order a limited edition archival quality print of this picture, approximately 135mm by 285mm, in a card mount approximately 270mm by 420mm, price £50.
