So I said to the horse, "Why the long face?"

Every exhibition needs a joke, and here it is. I started this pastiche of the "Night Watch" (or rather, "The Militia Company of Captain Frans Banning Cocq and Willem van Ruytenburch") because I felt I needed practice in doing faces. I still do. By the way, the long pointy thing held by the man in yellow is a weapon called a "partisan" which has given its name to that type of soldier; we learn something new every day, don't we?

Watercolour on paper. 380 x 285mm.

Would anyone ever want to buy this? Do me a favour.
