The aim of this page and materials provided under it are to make available guidance equivalent to the Carbohydrate Portion (CP) system of dietary control as presented in the UK DAFNE and PASTIE courses available to a wider audience of diabetics. These courses are primarily aimed at Type 1 diabetics, but the CP system can be invaluable to Type 2 diabetics as well.
The author of this page is a type 2 diabetic who went on a PASTIE course accompanying his type 1 wife and who as a result has significantly improved his blood glucose control (from over 7% HbA1c to 5.5) and lost over 10% of body weight in four months, going from obese to merely overweight, with significant lifestyle improvement. This improvement is ongoing. The hope is that other type 2 diabetics can take advantage of this guidance to acheive similar results.
